MANUS and East Sepik need K4 million from the Government to help king tide victims recover, National Disaster Centre director Col Carl Wrakonei says.
“The victims in the two provinces are in dire need of non-food items such as water tanks, communication equipment, transport fuel, hired boats, allowances, training, awareness and water containers to help them recover.
He said a submission had been submitted to the National Disaster Committee and defence secretary to pursue and advice the minister to sign and submit for National Executive Council approval.
Wrakonei said the effect of climate change caused damage to buildings and other infrastructure by king tides.
“All Members of Parliament led by the governors should work to help the vulnerable in the areas of leadership, provision of resources funding policy and others,” Wrakonei said.
“The communities affected in East Sepik included Murik Lakes, Karau, Kaup, Kish Koil Island and Manus included Western Islands of Wuvulu Aua Island and others,” he added.
