Dishonest teachers should be investigated

I WAS very unhappy reading a news article last week about how a group of teachers at Jangit Primary School in East Sepik filled in their teacher resumption duty forms (RDFs) for eight years than deserted the students.
The case that a group of Grade 8 students at Jangit Primary School repeated for eight years because of the unfaithful teachers is unbelievable, to say the least.
An investigation should be carried out as soon as possible to identify how and why these teachers in Jangit Primary School could fill in their RDFs and then disappear for the whole year while on full pay.
This is just unbelievable.
The investigation should provide answers as to how these teachers filled in RDFs and how they were okayed by the headmaster and the provincial education office in Wewak for eight years.
Once the investigation is done, people who are involved should be penalised.
We should realise that the teachers who deserted their posts and enjoyed full pay stole money from the Education Department and the taxpayers of PNG.
They should be identified and brought before some tribunal and charged.
The provincial adviser in East Sepik and inspector in charge should answer for this shameful conduct.
The Teaching Service Commission should wake up and check on each and every remote school in East Sepik and the rest of Papua New Guinea and ensure they are paying teachers who are on the ground and teaching, not paying ghosts, or those who fill in their RDFs at the start of the year and disappear.
There are reports of too many thieves in the Education Department and people who sign to be paid without doing a honest job.
Do not let these people escape.
Stop them and penalise them.
The Teaching Service Commission, Education Department and even respective MPs of the different districts in PNG should check to see that teachers are actually there to teach the children, not just filling out forms and disappearing from their posts.
We must not allow this criminal behaviour to continue.
Stop it immediately.
