District authority endorses budget of over K15 million

THE Menyamya development authority (DDA) has endorsed a budget of K15,205,000.
Of the total, K8,480,000 was allocated for infrastructure, K1,280,000 for education (school fee subsidy), K1,160,000 for economic activities, K2,040,000 for health, K290,000 for law and justice and K1,955,000 for administration.
Emphasis on infrastructure includes rural housing (roofing iron), access road maintenance, Menyamya station clean-up and outstanding work on district roads.
In health, K2 million was budgeted for the upgrade of the Menyamya health centre to a rural hospital and K40,000 for referrals and repatriation.
In education, K200,000 will be for Aseki High School, K400,000 for Menyamya Secondary School, K150,000 for Menyamya Tvet, K500,000 for tertiary institutions, colleges and skills training and K30,000 for administrative support.
In the economic sector, apart from small-medium enterprises support, K30,000 is for rice milling and pulpers repair, K100,000 for Yha Hauka Kopi (legal service) and K30,000 for administrative support.
Acting district administrator Meshach Wowongo said it was the first DDA meeting since the death of former MP Thomas Pelika and the election of Benjamin Philip as the new MP.
“We expect funding next week,” he said.
“The budget is fixed.
“We have also requested the finance ministry to approve a district procurement committee who will head the contracts for the major projects.”
