Schools in Morobe’s Bulolo will celebrate the nation’s 47th anniversary in style tomorrow, thanks to the district development authority for the financial help.
MP and authority chairman Sam Basil Jnr yesterday visited and helped more than 30 schools, starting from Timini Primary in Mumeng LLG, then to Watut LLG and Buang LLG.
He said: “When we help schools to host the celebrations, automatically, the wider community surrounding the schools will be involved since it’s their children who are attending the schools.
“Independence Day is a day for everyone to celebrate our independence and everyone must be involved and celebrate in peace and in good spirit of patriotism.”
Basil urged students to focus on their studies and avoid activities such as school fights.
“I was once a student like you but you’re fortunate that now you have technology at your disposal through the use of mobile phones unlike us in the past,” he said ahead of the independence celebrations.
“Make good use of the technology for study purposes.
“If you’re caught being involved in school fights, you’re on your own, you will be dealt with according to the law.”
Basil will be attending celebrations at St Peter’s Catholic Primary School in Bulolo today.
