THE 21 wards in the Raluana local level government (LLGs) in Kokopo, East New Britain (ENB), received their K5,000 ward grants from the district administration recently.
Kokopo administrator John Talele, who was at Raluana LLG chamber last Thursday to present the cheques to ward members, said a total of K105,000 in funding under the district service improvement programme (DSIP) funds was allocated to Raluana LLG.
Talele said under the programme, the government had recognised the establishment of the wards where majority of the people lived.
He said the provincial government had directed all four district administrations to support their wards.
Talele said for Kokopo, they were fortunate that their district development authority (DDA) ensured the immediate roll out of the programme.
Talele said last year the DDA had agreed to allocate K5,000 each to the 84 wards in the district.
“This is our third disbursements of the grants direct to the wards, and this is to support our ward members and their ward development committees with their work.”
The DDA board will meet again in October or November to deliberate next year’s budget for ward grants.
