District Court denies appeal that comes from village

THE Mt Hagen District Court has told appellants from village courts to solve their cases at this level.
Magistrate Jacinta Doa said this after an appellant appeared in court yesterday to set aside a village court order, without informing the respondent and village court magistrates who made the decision.
Doa said that whoever was not satisfied with the village court’s decision, and appealed to the district court, must serve court papers on other parties concerned to also come to court.
She said that if they wanted to avoid other parties by coming to court alone, this would not work out.
Doa said the appellant must make it their duty to inform the respondent, serve them the court documents and also give enough time for them to prepare before coming to court.
She said that the appellant must also meet the cost of bringing village court magistrates to court for their appeal.
Doa said that the district court would need to ask questions to the village court magistrates on their decisions, therefore, it was very important that they too must appear in court.
