THE North Fly development authority has reached a deal with the North Fly Rubber Ltd (NFRL) to buy rubber from farmers at a price convenient for them.
Effective Monday, all North Fly rubber farmers in Western can sell their rubber for the cup lump sum of K1.40 per kilo – a 20 toea increase from the previous price of K1.20.
North Fly MP James Donald is determined to see his people benefit and prosper.
“This is the result of what we believed to do, putting money in the pockets of our people as stated in our development plan 2018 – 2022,” he said.
The programme was made possible through the support of district development funding since 2019.
Donald hoped that the new price will increase as long as the programme is implemented.
Rubber farmers have been advised to return to their rubber trees instead of roaming the streets of Kiunga doing nothing.
“I wish to thank the board and management of the North Fly Rubber Ltd for the careful management of price enhancement subsidies,” Donald said.
He encouraged the people especially farmers to focus on rubber farming as rubber trees guarantee a source of income.
