FOR the first time since the introduction of the Joint District Budget Priority Committee, Obura-Wonenara district, in Eastern Highlands, has engaged a lawyer.

Andrew Kwimberi, principal of Kwimberi Lawyers, was engaged by the district to provide legal services, including defending cases involving district services improvement programme funds.

Kwimberi said the committee, under the chairmanship of Obura-Wonenara MP Mehrra Minne Kipefa, saw the importance of transparency and accountability in compliance with the Public Finance Management Act.

One of the first tasks Kwimberi performed was the commissioning of the district peace and good order committee members at Aiyura yesterday. He said the committee would work 24 hours, seven days a week to resolve problems and address law and order issues in the community.

Kwimberi said an allowance would be available for the district, especially for training village court officials to perform their job effectively.

The committee members who took oaths of office were Puambu Bahi, Gibson Serereka, Lawerence Koki, Pastor Paru Tukundo, Rinsy Apako, Ambo Boni To’a Taberi, Atiga Orami and Ma’u Bora.

The swearing in coincided with the opening of new Obura-Wonenara Police Station and district court house in Aiyura .
