District forms action committee

THE Maprik district has recently formed its family and sexual violence action committee.
The formation captures MP John Simon’s vision to improve standards for the protection of women in the district.
The formation of the committee was an initiative of Jonah Linus, a project officer for Family Health International (FHI360) Maprik field office, to address the growing social problems in communities.
Linus expressed satisfaction on behalf of the FHI360 country office who helped coordinate and oversee the establishment of the committee.
He said the importance of the committee was to improve the coordination of efforts between the government and NGOs with regards to funding, resources and manpower to address issues in the district.
Committee chairman Alois Makeng said the support of their local MP and the district development authority (DDA) would be important in the success of their programmes and efforts.
