HUON Gulf MP Ross Seymour on Wednesday launched a fleet of 10 new vehicles worth around K2.5 million for the district development authority (DDA).
Seymour said the fleet comprised of two dump trucks bought for K1.2mil while the eight vehicles were worth K1.3mil.
The vehicles were presented to DDA chief executive officer Moses Wanga, who is also the president of Wampar local level government (LLG).
The vehicles will serve the district’s 27 wards, Huon Gulf development service (business arm), Wampar health services, district treasury, district’s health division, police and two dump trucks to assist earth moving and road work.
Seymour said three more vehicles would be bought and assigned to the Salamaua LLG president, Morobe LLG president and Wampar LLG vice-president as Wampar covers a large area.
He said the district administration had been hiring vehicles and having their own vehicles would save them money.
He added that the new vehicles would replace the DDA’s old and broken down fleet.
Seymour also urged Wanga to ensure the new vehicles were use appropriately and maintained regularly in order to maximise the benefit to the district.
He warned against the misuse of the vehicles particularly “drinking alcohol” and “womanising”.

  • K2.5 million is a lot of money. Is it really worth spending that amount on vehicles that would only serve the interest of the few or would it be better spent on delivering much needed basic services for these areas that will be used collectively by a lot of people in your district for the betterment of their lives?

Huon Gulf District must be one of the outstanding districts in the country with better road links, bridges, health centres/hospitals, schools, electricity in all the rural facilities and villages, wharves and so decides to spend the money to buy vehicles. I’m dumbfounded by some leaders who lack the visionary leadership to improve the lives of their people they are mandated to serve by prioritising what the peoples’ needs are over the wants of a few individuals who we assume to represent the people.

  • These Presidents are of official Leadership classification and as such their salary and allowances include transport. Thus giving them vehicles from public funds is illegal

  • Tax payers baim famiy car blo ol presidents lo karim ol famili raun..what a disgrace.
