District launches youth development council to help improve lives

YOUTHS in Western’s North Fly are set to have better representation in local government to improve their lives.
This follows the launch of the North Fly Youth Development Council through the support of AusAid Justice Services and Stability for Development Programme (JSS4D), Western government, district development authority (DDA) and National Youth Development Authority (NYDA) in Kiunga last week.
According to NYDA, youths in Kiunga had missed out on opportunities over the years due to a lack of recognition and integration in the district and province.
“The partnership approaches have now made it possible for the youths to have a formal voice mechanism in the district,” NYDA said in a statement.
“The council will now work closely with the provincial government and DDA to mobilise all youth and have them registered in respective village and local level government areas.”
The development of a youth council will enable them to participate in life-changing activities such as the small to medium enterprise (SME) sectors, seeking other opportunities and be recognised as a legal entity.
NYDA thanked AusAid JSS4D for the support and partnership in the youth space.
