WOMEN in the Tari-Pori, Hela, will now be able to get loans from the Women’s Micro Bank Ltd to start micro small-to-medium enterprises (MSMEs) and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs).
The bank signed an agreement yesterday with executives of the district’s development authority (DDA) and a cheque for K1 million was given to the bank to support MSME and SME-related programmes.
“This is an opportunity that we have been waiting on for quite a while because we have already done awareness up in Tari-Pori, and we have introduced our bank, to help mothers,” bank chairman Ricky Mitio said.
According to Matthew Yago, a former MP of Tari-Pori, the DDA would continue to work with the bank to support and empower Hela women.
“Empowering women is one of our priorities.”
“That is why we partnered with the bank and intend to continue the partnership until we see and are satisfied that all the women in our district especially are successful in business,” DDA chief executive Willie Kara said.
“Women are the most effective entrepreneurs in this country, and I believe the women in Tari-Pori are no different; they will benefit from this investment in the bank for MSME and SME training and loans,” bank chief executive Gunanidhi Das said.
