District pays students’ fees

THIRTY students from Tewae-Siassi, Morobe, attending Balob Teachers College, had their fees paid last week by the development authority (DDA).
Local MP Dr Kobby Bomareo and members of the DDA made a payment of K113,000 to the college for the 30 second and third-year students.
Dr Bomareo said they were only sponsoring second and third-year students because of the high dropout rate for first-year students – the aim was to sponsor students who had shown they deserved it by making it to the second year of their studies.
Of the 30 students, 15 were in their second year of studies and 15 in third year. “They went through a strict criteria before being sponsored by the district,” Dr Bomareo said.
“We only pay fees for those with a GPA of 2.6 and above.”
