THE people of Numboruon in west Yangoru, East Sepik, are celebrating the upgrading of a road in their area after 40 years of neglect.

Yangoru MP Richard Maru secured funds for the upgrading and maintenance of the road.

The road construction began on Tuesday, with officers from the  Works Department already on the ground.

Maru, the Minister for Commerce Trade and Industry, said the upgrading of the 10km road would start from the Warabung junction to Numboruon.

He said the road would also connect other areas including the Yangoru government station, Numbihu, Kuragamun, Papandu, Holik and Yaramboim.

“The construction of the road is a K1 million project for which the fund is coming from the National Planning Department under its transport grants,” Maru said.

Newly-elected president of the West Yangoru local level government Manu Ganai thanked Maru for his timely assistance.

Manu said it was important that people saw development taking place in their own wards and LLGs.

He told the people that they had elected a good leader in Maru.

He urged them to let the workers complete the road without unnecessary interruptions.
