TELIKOM PNG is set to roll out its network in Gazelle, East New Britain, which is expected to enhance connectivity in the province.
This follows K330,000 approved by the Gazelle district development authority (DDA) through its administration to Telikom PNG last Monday.
Gazelle MP Jelta Wong presented the payment to Telikom Niugin Islands regional sales manager Voda Vilik.
Wong said the Gazelle DDA was now partnering with Telikom to improve communication in the district.
“Under this partnership with Telikom PNG, Gazelle will extend the communication link into all its five rural local level governments,” he said. “Telikom will start in the remote Lassul Baining and Inland Baining LLGs that have been neglected for so long.”
Wong who is Health and HIV/AIDS Minister said it was only proper to support and partner with the nationally-owned telecommunications company to continue to support provinces to extend essential communication services, particularly to dark spot areas where people were being denied outside access.
He said with a proper network in place, it would improve communication for people in rural areas to access essential services in emergencies.
Vilik said the contractor engaged will commence work soon.
