District seeking K20mil to get road completed

Main Stories

Usino-Bundi district has applied for K20 million from Ramu Nickel tax credit scheme to fund the Usino-Yal Road, MP Jimmy Uguro says.
He said he was serious about fast-tracking completion of an alternate Usino-Madang Highway because the current highway always deteriorated during bad weather.
Uguro said Ramu Nickel was transporting chromite from Kurumbukari mine site to Lae for export, and was contributing more internal revenue to Morobe.
Uguro said once the Usino-Yal Road was completed, Ramu Nickel would be asked to divert its export out of the port of Madang.
He said heavy rain in the province was rapidly “eating away” the Usino highway.
Uguro inspected the highway over the weekend and appealed to Works’ engineers to quickly attend to it as a collapse was imminent.
He said he would also investigate whether the Ramu Nickel pipeline had an effect on soil erosion.
Locals have claimed that slurry pumped at high speed was causing erosion.
