KUNDIAWA-Gembogl district in Chimbu has signed a K1 million memorandum-of-understanding (MOU) with Fresh Produce Development Agency (FPDA) to develop the fresh produce industry in the district.
MP Willie Gogl Onguglo signed the MOU with FPDA chief executive officer Mark Worinu in Goroka last Wednesday to implement an effective partnership and network arrangement to help vegetable farmers in his district.
Onguglo presented K500,000 to the FPDA as first installment of the K1 million.
“FPDA has all the plans and technical expertise in farming and we want to partner with you to develop our garden produce as we move into commercial farming,” he said.
“As much as I would like to improve other service sectors in the district, I see that agriculture holds promise for my people, and so I want to focus on it so that my people can be leveraged from where they are and improve their living standards.
“I would like to see FPDA play a leading role in building capacity of the communities and develop the horticulture industry as they have the capacity and industry knowledge.”
