Komo-MaRgarima in Hela will get a doctor stationed at Margarima hospital, according to the provincial health authority (PHA).
Last Saturday, dozens of people at the station celebrated the opening of a renovated public servant’s house which was funded by the local district development authority (DDA) at a cost of K65,000.
The Hela PHA will purchase furniture, electrical appliances and other household goods for the house.
Komo-Margarima DDA chief executive Mark Mendeai said they renovated a house at the police barracks for the district’s doctor to live adding that his office would also renovate other houses for public servants in Margarima.
“People in the district have been asking for a doctor for many years and the people will have one as soon as the house is ready,” he said. He said having a doctor in the district was good because people would no longer need to travel to Tari – the PMV fare from Margarima to the provincial capital is K10.
PHA director public health Dorris Anton commended the DDA for renovating a house in the barracks as this would ensure the doctor was in a safe and secure location.
Anton said the lack of adequate housing was one of the reasons doctors were reluctant to work in the district hospital and commended the DDA and local MP Manasseh Makiba for their effort is getting the house renovated and ready for use.
Anton also called on the people to respect the district’s healthcare workers, especially doctors, as they played a crucial role in the maintaining the health and wellbeing of the population.
She said awareness on the Covid-19 would be conducted in the district.

  • Good initiative by DDA. Service providers will only come to Hela Province when they completely change their mindset. People do not want to work in a hostile environment where problem is solved with gun barrels, bush knifes bows and arrows. They will never want to raise their kids in a places like Hela Province where law and order is completely not respected by the people. Inorder to have good public servants they must change their attitude and try and respect themselves. Days of fighting has gone and people enjoy and live a happy life. That part of the country is so blessed with oil and gas and thank the man above and enjoy the blessings rather than harming your own country man women and children.
