District’s 53 grade eights sit for national examinations

National

FIFTY-THREE grade eight students of Dirima Primary School in Gumine, Chimbu, were part of the 137,769 students nationwide who sat for the first of their national examinations yesterday.
They sat for their Written Expression paper.
The exams end on Thursday with English paper two.
Dirima Primary School head teacher Jack Gena said the students had come through many challenges over the past seven years of their primary school education to their final examinations.
Gena said despite all the challenges and with the Coronavirus (Covid-19) impacting the country, the students had been diligent in attending classes and doing their best to learn and be ready for this week.
He said the Covid-19 was here to stay and after their examinations the students had to remain vigilant in preventing transmissions to their families and the communities.
Dirima Catholic parish priest Fr Peter Kim, after the blessing of the examination papers on Sunday, supplied masks donated by his family and friends from his home country of South Korea.
Gumine school inspector Michael Sipa also visited the school, urging the students and the invigilators to stay safe from the Covid-19 during the exam week.
Sipa inspected the 24 primary schools in the district and said 300 to 400 grade eight students in Gumine were now sitting for their exams.
