Divune hydro producing power, to be transferred to Oro govt

The K70 million Divune Hydro project in Kokoda, Northern, is generating power as plans are underway for the facility to be transferred to the Oro government.
Governor Gary Juffa told The National that the provincial government was looking forward to the transfer of the hydro facilities so that it could generate revenue.
“Divune Hydro is already generating power and it will be transferred to the provincial government and allow us to generate revenue for ourselves,” he said.
“We are currently working on that arrangement.
“It is already generating power and the people of Oro are enjoying a decent power supply.
“From time to time, there are regular concerns or issues brought about by the weather that we cannot control, for instance if trees
fall on power lines or some other natural event that may disrupt supply.
“But we have good power management on the ground and I’m pleased to say they inform (the public) on time if there are issues to do with power outages and they work very hard to restore power.
“We have been very fortunate in this regard,” he said.
Juffa said the provincial government would now be able to generate about K10 million to K15 million through the K70 million Divune Hydro power project.
