Do away with elementary teachers

Letters

IT’S good to hear that the government is planning to do away with elementary schools and go back to the old system (1-6-6).
The elementary system was a disaster and it’s good that the Government through the education minister is changing it.
Since there will no longer be elementary schools, can the education minister or secretary tell us what would become of the teachers?
Apart from the poor foresight in teaching local dialects in elementary prep, the unqualified teachers are the sources of the poor standards and outcomes of the system.
Most of the elementary teachers are grade 10 dropouts with very poor marks.
They cannot understand resource materials and teaching guides.
How can they impart the knowledge to the kids if they themselves can’t understand the concept?
Elementary prep up to grade one are very important foundation years for a child in his/her education.
Unqualified teachers have been spoiling the foundation years of our children.
These will have an effect when they go up the system.
Grades one to two should be taught by professional teachers who have graduated from recognised teachers colleges and not grade ten dropouts who got into the system through the backdoor with pigs and money.
Engage professional early childhood teachers and retrench all elementary teachers throughout PNG.
Also instruct elementary training colleges not to enrol new intakes.

  • Yes, retrench all current elementary teachers and elementary teaching should be integrated into teachers collage. 4 years of training. Selection must also be from grade 12 with giod GPA and not grade 10 drop outs. I’ve seen it myself some do not understand what they are teaching.
