Do not meddle in police transfer issues

Letters

I WRITE in response to Central Governor Rufina Peter’s comments in the media expressing her dissatisfaction over the transfer of her favourite policeman.
Governor, you have no licence to interfere and/or make public comment regarding the decisions of the Police Commissioner.
I would suggest you read and educate yourself on the “Separation of Powers Act” as listed in our great Constitution.
The Police Commissioner does not answer to you and/or any other provincial governors.
It is the Police Commissioner’s prerogative to choose whom he wishes.
It has always been good policing practice and policy to ensure all officers are transferred regularly to ensure they do not become lazy and stale.
We haven’t seen this for a number of years and it only breeds corruption and nepotism.
There have been a number of issues within your province over the years with elevated crime levels, police harassment of the travelling public along the Magi Highway of which I believe the previous police area commander failed to address.
It is not surprising he has been demoted, certainly his work performance has been wanting for several years.
Central needs new people and fresh eyes to see what’s happening. Certainly, many years ago when the population respected the RPNGC, it was policy that nobody was ever posted to one’s own province for obvious reasons.
I would suggest Governor Peter that, with all due respect, if you have an issue with the current commissioner’s choice, then you meet with him and express your concerns without it being tried in the public media. This doesn’t create harmony but cheap political point-scoring.
