THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) has warned all its associations, affiliates and Digicel Cup franchises that all competitions and programmes are on hold until further notice.
This includes training and any form of gatherings by players and officials.
PNGRFL chairman Sandis Tsaka said in a statement yesterday that there had been unconfirmed reports of clubs and teams preparing to assemble for training.
“All rugby league competitions and programmes are still on hold until further notice,” he said.
Tsaka said the advice issued on March 18 that all competitions and programmes nationwide had been suspended until June 5 still stood.
“The state of emergency (SOE) ends on June 2,” he said.
“We have met with the Office of the SOE Controller on our plans and proposals on the post-SOE period and a return of our favourite sport.”
Tsaka said a response was expected within next week or so.
“So until we get a response from the Office of the SOE Controller and appropriate authorities, all rugby league competitions, activities and programmes, including training, are on hold until further notice,” he said.
Tsaka warned that those breaching the PNGRFL directive and not adhering to the rules and protocols would be penalised.
“I urge all rugby league players, officials and supporters throughout the country to respect the protocols and rules set during these uncertain times,” he said.
“The benefits will be great for everyone involved, including our sponsors, partners and stakeholders.”
