THE Dockers have three teams in tomorrow’s Esi Loan Port Moresby AFL premiership grand finals at Colts Oval with their senior men, reserve grade and women’s set to do battle against Kokofas (women), Cats (reserves) and Koboni (seniors).
Club president Loi Bakani and patron Dominic Kaumu were pleased with their Lamana-sponsored club crediting good coaching and great team spirit for a successful season so far.
The Dockers seniors and women’s sides are the defending premiers.
Senior men’s coach Stanis Isu said he was expecting a tough game against Koboni, the side they beat in last year’s final, but his team’s focus would be on executing their skills.
“We made this final because we worked hard and prepared throughout the season and we’re ready to take on Koboni,” Isu said.
Dockers will need their top performers in Emmanuel Tupia, Laurie Logo, Archie Mai Jr, Ferdinand Musi, Colin Slim, Sebastian Gelu and Desmond Kaumu to fire for the side.
Isu said his side were desparate to win a flag in their 21st year.
Concept Koboni on the other hand cannot be discounted with their roster as well as the club’s long history of success — they have been in 25 grand finals and won 22 since inception in the 1970s.
Koboni coach John Kali said his men were physically and mentally ready for the final and were determined to beat the defending premiers.
“They beat us in last year’s final so we’re determined to win now,” Kali said.
Brendan Beno, Greg Aki, Alphonse Jambarufo, captain Micahel Natta, and Herald Kali will be looked on to get Koboni’s attack going.
Fixtures: Sat, Aug 25 – 10am Dockers v Kokofas (women); 12pm Dockers v Cats (reserve grade); 2pm Dockers v Koboni (seniors).
