Dockers win, move into top spot in AFL

THE Dockers leapfrogged Gordon Kokofas into top spot with a 25-point victory over the Lizards in the Port Moresby Esi Loan Women’s Premiership at the Colts Oval on Sunday.
The waterfront women proved too good, booting 2.0, 0.1, 2.1 and 2.1 for a total of 6.3 (39) to the Kokofas 2.2 (14).
The Dockers began on a fiery note with champion rover Monica Tovara and Jill Ravusiro combining well in the midfield to set up Valerie Mai and Bianca Avia for two early goals.
The Kokofas retaliated with goals from Margaret Keneke and Lila Malabag to go into first recess with the scores tied at 2.0 (14).
That happened to be the final score for the Kokofas as the Dockers took control of the game from second quarter to win the match.
The standouts for the Dockers were Tovara, Ravusiro, Mai, Avia, Bella Grant, Maureen Bawase, Florence Piandi and Veronica Kavanamur while Keneke, Lila Malabag, Florentina Ray, Benita Mai, Jossie Jimmy and Cymbyliyn Yogomin played their hearts out for the Kokofas. The goal-kickers for Dockers were Mai (2), Avian (2), Bawase (1) and Grant (1).
Both sides lead the ladder on 20 points each, with the Dockers slightly ahead. The Gerehu Magpies trail on third place (12) followed by Koboni (8) and Tigers (0).
