THREE doctors from the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) were attacked and beaten on Saturday afternoon by men alleged to be from the Highlands.
National Capital District Met Supt said he was aware but there was no brief of the incident as yet.
Cancer treatment head Dr Peter Olali, who was one of the three who was attacked, said at around 5pm a route 20 bus crashed into emergency physician Dr Duncan Sengiromo’s vehicle at their residence at Bautama.
“He was driving out for a meeting at that time.
“The bus had passengers and was travelling at full speed,” he said.
Olali said as a neighbour of Dr Sengiromo, ran out to see what was happening.
“We contacted police and then brought the bus to Saraga Police Station and told the crowd not to burn the bus as a crowd was already gathering,” he said.
He said after everything had cooled down, later in the evening they went outside and started chatting.
“After an hour, four coaster buses loaded with relatives believed to be the bus owner’s, drove to our residence and started attacking us with iron bars, bush knives, pitchforks, spades and stones,” he said.
Olali said they were caught off guard.
He (Olali) has a fractured scapula (bone that connects the collarbone and upper arm) and is unable to move his shoulder joints or write or drive.
The other two received bush knife wounds and fractured ribs.
“They are pursuing two cases, one is the vehicle accident and the assault case,” Olali said.
He said they had done X-rays for the fractures and are waiting for full medical reports to submit to the Saraga station.
“We are not attending to our patients at the moment as we are not able to, the hospital management is aware,” he said.
Attempts to get PMGH chief executive officer Dr Paki Molumi’s comments were unsuccessful.
