Doctors told to do more than one malaria test

DOCTORS and nurses dealing with malaria diagnostics have been urged to conduct several malaria tests to confirm malaria parasites.
Divine Word University’s medical faculty lecturer Dr Miila Gena said malaria germs that carried malaria parasites changed genes that produced negative test results.
“If you get a test and it’s negative, do two or three more tests to confirm,” Gena said.
She said many people conduct only one test and when they get negative results they began blaming things like sorcery.
She said doing more tests may pick up the parasites.
Gena also urged the current work force in the medical field to not only focus on patient
care but also do awareness in villages and communities about malaria.
