PNG striker Tommy Semmy is likely to miss round one of the Solomon Islands national soccer league — S-League — due to the late arrival of his international transfer certificate.
Semmy told The National from Honiara that he was disappointed with the treatment he received from the S-League management.
The Hekari United striker is one of the four players signed by Marist for the 2016-2017 S-League season.
Semmy’s ITC arrived on the deadline last Thursday but the PNG striker could not play for his adopted club.
Hekari chairman John Kapi Natto blasted the PNG Football Association secretariat for not helping PNG players get experience overseas.
He confirmed that Semmy’s clearance was given at the last minute.
PNGFA general secretary Dimirit Mileng said Semmy’s transfer certificate had been sent to the Solomon Islands Football Federation.
“We cannot deny any player the right to transfer outside the country. However, the last club the player was playing for must give that clearance before PNGFA can issue an ITC, while the recipient club must ensure formal requirements of the host nation are in order,” he said.
