Dogs fight hard to level against Souths

COUNTRY Dogs came from behind to level the scores 4-4 against MDK Souths in the Gerehu Offseason Rugby League during their round five clash in Port Moresby on Friday.
The game at the Gerehu Sports Centre saw Souths score the first unconverted try two minutes in after a cross kick from five-eighth Suckling Tuvi was taken by Mokai Hobert who managed to ground it on the right edge.
Both teams were able to complete a high percentage of their sets but lacked enough penetration to score tries.
Souths held the 4-0 at halftime but the second half saw a lift in intensity as both sides fought to dominate possession and have the momentum.
Dogs front men Daniel Meia, Wesley John, Daure Homoka and lock Iduhu Billy made strong carries but Souths contained them through the efforts of Boss Paga, Dunsten Kona and Bela Hobert.
But Souths defence was finally cracked late in the match with the Dogs grabbing an equalising four-pointer.
Dogs had the chance to win the match but the conversion was wide.
Souths team manager Charlie Tuvi said his side had now three wins and two draws after five rounds.
“The boys played some good football and defended well for most of the game. We’re happy with how we have gone so far this season,” he said.
