Don’t be fooled by last minute donations

Letters

OF late, hardly a day passes by when we do not read about a donation of some sort to a school, a church, a hospital, a community, etc.
Accompanying the story would be a photograph of the grateful recipients and the donor, all arranged of course.
And 99.9 per cent of the time, the donor would be a politician.
Does this have anything to do with the fact that the general election is only some weeks away?
Have these politicians suddenly found spare cash in their funds?
Have they suddenly realised that some of the constituents are in dire need of basic services or assistance?
It is really a case of now you see them, now you don’t.
Voters should not be fooled by these pretenders.
We want strong-minded and dedicated individuals who will speak out for the people, look out for our interests regardless of the consequences to themselves, and who are not busy looking at ways and means to enrich themselves.

Voter,
