Don’t repeat previous election’s mistakes

Letters

MEMBERS of Parliament from Mamose, New Guinea Islands and Southern regions should challenge Electoral commissioner Simon Sinai’s idea of having one-day polling in the National Capital District and seven Highlands provinces as this is a divide and rule political tactic leading up to the formation of a new government this year.
MPs who agree with me should stand up and speak against this.
Ask Prime Minister James Marape to address the nation regarding this.
Can Transparency International PNG and the Ombudsman Commision come out and say something about this?
We should not destroy the good principles of our democracy and fairness.
We should not conduct elections in a manner that will cause political divisions among Papua New Guineans.
This year’s elections should be conducted in a transparent way and free from corrupt practices.
If we agree on one-day polling, then do the same for all provinces instead of a selected few.
Let us not forget about the 2017 general election in which one-day polling in parts of PNG resulted in early counting and declarations while other provinces and districts were still counting.
This should not be repeated in this year’s elections.

Samson Napo,
Former Bulolo MP
