A DRILL stem test conducted by Oil Search Ltd at Barikewa 3 field in Gulf produced gas at 25-metre intervals of the Toro and Hedinia sandstones.
Barikewa 3 well is within the petroleum retention licence 9 (PRL 9) operated by Oil Search Ltd.
Oil Search reported that analysis of the gas from the drill stem test and earlier wireline sampling confirms a dry gas with approximately 20 per cent nitrogen and very low levels of other impurities, in line with pre-drill expectations.
Kumul Petroleum Holdings Ltd managing director Wapu Sonk said as a participant in the PRL, they had 14.9 per cent interest before back-in rights exercise.
“Through KPHL subsidiary National Petroleum Company of PNG (NPCP) is excited about the delineation of the field, which makes this and nearby Kimu field very attractive for the PNG LNG expansion project,” he said.
