BOOZE led to the killing of a mate and wounding of another in an East Sepik village.
The alleged offender from Angoram was arrested last week after a homebrew session at the village left one dead and another badly wounded.
He was charged with murder and attempted murder.
“From the police record most of the killings are related to the consumption of homebrew,” East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli said.
“With the expression of “liklik moni bikpla spak” the youths are taking the lives of their own drinking mates as no one’s business and this must be stopped.
“Leaders from respective areas, especially the ward councilors, must always report these illegal activities to the police.”
Supt Beli said because they were into illegal brewing and consumption of liquor, they had no control over their drinking habits.
He said alcohol brewed in factories were tested by experts so it was safe for consumption but homebrew was dangerous.
