DRIVERS, crew and passengers should be responsible and mature enough to make it their business to comply with traffic rules, an official says.
Chief executive officer of the Road Traffic Authority (RTA) Nelson Terema told The National yesterday that motorists who were breaking the rules were endangering lives.
“If caught, they can be charged and their vehicles impounded if the offence is serious,” he said.
Terema was responding to concerns raised by the public that motorists were continuing to ignore rules.
“There were more than 2,000 taxis and 1,000 public motor vehicles (PMVs) registered with the authority,” Terema said.
“Many were also operating without a licence.
“We have challenges such as lack of manpower and we cannot be everywhere to remind people to follow these simple rules,” he said.
