Drug bust result of strong cooperation

Letters

IT was a strong message to those Papua New Guineans and their Malaysian counterparts arrested in a drug bust in Port Moresby by police, particularly the trans national crime unit.
The suspects are not representing any significant interest between the two sovereign nations (Malaysia and Papua New Guinea) and need to be punished at the highest level and such a punishment should send a strong message and become a deterrent to those would be dreaming to engage in something like this in future.
The arrest was the result of the strong connectivity in the sharing of intelligence among the various stakeholders and police personnel.
Prevention or minimising such crime is the responsibility of everyone in the country so that the work of our law enforcement agencies would be easy for our safety.
This is a serious threat and is not going down well in line with PNG’s status as Christian country so it calls for cooperation between citizens to report any illegal activities, including prostitution or anything that is not in our interest and is against our laws.
As a citizen I whole heartedly commend the specialist police personnel from the trans national crimes directorate for their great effort which led to the arrest of those drug lords.
Our country should not be seen as a “safe house” and transit point for the movement of dangerous drugs by foreigners teaming up with citizens.
Those arrested should face the full force of the new amended dangerous drugs laws.
