‘Drunk’ officer suspended

A SENIOR police prosecutor who appeared drunk at the Goroka District Court to prosecute a case, has been suspended for an indefinite period.
Eastern Highlands police commander Supt David Seine Jr suspended Senior Sgt James Bonki saying he had tarnished the force’s reputation. The court was presided by senior Magistrate Cosmos Inkisopo.
“There is no room for rogue police officers who want to tarnish the good reputation of the police in Eastern Highlands and Papua New Guinea,” Seine said.
“I am immediately suspending Sgt Bonki and he has to explain why he appeared drunk in court to prosecute cases.”
He said the officer was seen drinking the night before.
Seine said Bonki appeared untidy and poorly attired and reportedly before entering the court, asked individuals at the court house for a tie and jacket.
“This is a total public disgrace and I cannot tolerate such behaviour.
Bonki is now suspended,” Seine said.
Magistrate Inkisopo and parties involved in the case had waited for three hours for Bonki to show up.

  • Leave him out or leave him in, such behaviours could be described as intellectual stupidity in the public office.
