THE Mingende Rural Hospital will soon have a new incinerator thanks to the Simbu government.
Governor Michael Dua made the announcement following a visit to the Catholic Church Health Services (CCHS) – run facility last Thursday to meet with the hospital’s administration, staff and board.
The current incinerator has deteriorated over the years due to excessive use.
Dua confirmed, after an inspection that the situation needed urgent attention and that he would attend to it.
Chimbu CCHS secretary Sr Elizabeth Koai said the installation of the incinerator was the single most important need of the hospital apart from other issues affecting the operations of the Catholic church in the province.
She said a staggering K200,000 would be required to set up a new incinerator.
“We’ve received several letters from the neighbouring institutions including the St Mary’s Tvet (technical and vocational education training), St Joseph’s Primary School and the church community advising of the need to have a proper incinerator as the current one is producing harmful gases which is unhealthy for our neighbours, the hospital staff and patients as well,” Koai said.
