MADANG MP Nixon Duban has allocated K100,000 to hold the annual Kalibobo show during the Independence holiday next month.
Duban increased funding from K20,000 because of its success at the Rotary Park last year.
The show heavily involved people living in Kalibobo, the Madang Urban local level government ward two.
Events coordinator Chris Tomongo said this year’s show would include new events such as the traditional contest for Miss Kalibobo and children singsing groups performing.
Tomongo said a dinghy race and a sausage-eating marathon would be added.
“The Kalibobo Festival is an annual event that began seven years ago targeted for women and children from ward two area to celebrate independence as one big community,” he said.
Chairman of the festival Sam Moses said this year’s increase of funds had allowed the show committee to host a bigger event.
Moses said police security would be engaged to ensure the safety of all participants and visitors and the smooth running of the show were successful as planned.
