Only genuine landowners will be involved in the ministerial determination for the Juha project, Petroleum and Energy Minister William Duma told parliament yesterday.
He said the five Juha gas wells were located both in Western (2) and Southern Highlands (3) provinces.
Duma said the landowners would not derive any direct benefits from their gas as production would begin in 10 years but the government had been good in considering them for business development grants.
“Only genuine landowners will be involved in the determination,” Duma said.
He said a John Wabisela, who was claiming leadership over Western landowners, had been a councillor on the Southern Highlands side of the border and as soon as gas was discovered in Western, he immediately moved in to claim land on the other side of the border.
