DIVINE Word University (DWU) Bullets are set to face Digicel Friends in the last round of the Madang Cricket Association’s pre-season competition on Sunday.
Bullets, who are one of four teams competing in the pre-season, have so far registered five wins and a loss since the start of the competition last month.
Team captain Frank Ani told The National yesterday that they were a new side and a first for the university to enter the competition.
“Bullets were formed by myself and vice-captain David Morelee to play in the Madang Cricket Association competition,” he said.
“Most of the boys in the team are rookies but I train them with my skills and we help each other.
“We have no support so I used my own pocket money to purchase the jerseys which we are using in the competition.”
For a new team with little experience, the Bullets have been impressive by winning five of their six matches so far.
The DWU cricketers will look to put up a strong performance against Digicel Friends with the aim to secure a spot in next month’s pre-season finals.
“We need to work harder on our batting skills,” Ani said.
“But other than that, our fielding is on point as shown in our victories.”
The other two teams competing in the pre-season are Yabong Natives and Guard Dog Security with more sides expected to join when the season begins.
