VINCENT Tangali Jr starred as the North Coast Eagles beat the North West Mariners 42-27 in Kimbe AFL Association grand final on Saturday, according to president Joe Reu.
Tangali’s man-of-the-match effort completed the double after the Eagles finished the regular season as minor premiers. Reu said Tangali showed class from the start to the finish to help his side claim the John Kali Cup.
“The Ruangu villager is a good proponent for the national Mosquito team,” Reu told The National.
Reu said the cup was named after Papua New Guinea AFL Commission chairman and PNG high commissioner to Australia John Kali, who presided over the grand final presentation.
“This is a historical grand final as such has never happened in Kimbe before and we have given the honour to high commissioner Kali by naming it after him,” Reu said.
In the women’s grand final, North Coast Eagles defeated the Lions 43-24, with Gorethy Keu taking out the woman-of-the-match award.
In the U14s, the Eagles defeated the Lions 10-2. Lions beat the Dockers 31-18 in the U17 category.
Reu, who is also the Eagles vice-chairman, said he was happy to see his three teams win their respective grand finals.
