KOBONI’S premiership prospects got reality check when they were beaten 42-35 by West Eagles in their Esiloan Port Moresby AFL clash at the Colts Oval on Saturday.
The Demons have themselves to blame for the loss as they had more possessions but their conversions were off target. The Demons had 15 scoring chances of which they converted 4.11 (35) to the Eagles 6.6 (42).
Koboni went with the wind in the first quarter and of the five scoring chances they only kicked 1.4 (10) to the Eagles lone goal.
The Demons kicked 0.3 against the wind while the Eagles kicked 2.3 to lead 3.3 (21) to 1.7 (13) at half-time.
Koboni outscored the Eagles in the third quarter with 3.2 (20) to 2.2 (14) to peg back the lead to 5.5 (35) to 4.9 (33).
Koboni rallied strongly in the final quarter against the wind but their tireless efforts only rewarded them with two behinds while West kicked 1.1 to run out the winners.
The goal kickers for West were Dunstall Kase 2, Jeffery Namete, Damien Kani, Mathew Pulah Jr and Rex Peregua 1 each while Douglas Lai Jr 3 and Joseph Singura 1 were Koboni’s goal kickers.
In the earlier game on Saturday North Waigani Tigers blasted Gereka Bombers 14.9 (93) to 2.4 (16).
On Sunday, Lamana Dockers hit their stride to overpower an ill-prepared Bomana Cats 13.4 (82) to 4.8 (32).
