Reigning champions Bismarck Maritime West Eagles turned the Colts Oval into a goal-kicking party to rout Gordon Kokofas by 95 points 16.6 (102) to 1.1 (7) in their Moni Plus Port Moresby AFL round 3 clash on Saturday.
Except for the second quarter in which the Lizards offered some resistance to score their only points for the match, a goal and a behind, the entire game belonged to the Eagles who were ruthless in banking their third win on the trot.
The Eagles are perched on top of the ladder unbeaten with a better points differential than Concept Koboni and Port Power, the other unbeaten sides.
Koboni also thrashed the Alavana Swans 14.10 (94) to 2.1 (13) on Sunday while the Power zapped the Gerehu Magpies 8.4 (52) to 4.3 (27) in the mid-afternoon clash on Saturday.
The Eagles’ win was built in the opening quarter when they set the scoreboard alight with five consecutive goals to leave the Kokofas scoreless at first interval.
The Lizards bagged a lone goal and behind in the second quarter had not answers as the eagles beat them across the park and scored goals at regular intervals to run away with the match.
The Power-Magpies clash was a crowd pleaser with the Pies taking the game up to Power with the lead changing hands but the Power stood firm with strong marking a highlight and booting three goals in the final quarter.
Koboni feasted on a Swans who while brave simply did not have the quality of play or troops to foot it with the Demons.
In the other matches on Sunday, a youthful Cats outfit out-witted Gereka Bombers 5.5 (35) to 4.2 (26) while Lamana Dockers eased past University Tigers 4.4 (28) to 2.3 (15).
In the women’s matches on Saturday, Kokofas hammered West Eagles 7.6 (48) to 2.0 (12) while the Dockers edged the Magpies 2.1 (13) to 0.1 (1).
The massive win from the Eagles sees them on top of the division as competition front-runners with the West New Briton side looking to continue their premiership winning run.
Meanwhile, a revived Koboni side remain in the race as title contenders with the country’s oldest club building an impressive season.
