THE West Eagles clawed Koboni in their Port Moresby Esiloan premiership AFL clash at the Colts Oval on Saturday.
Koboni (which means demons or devil in pidgin) were completely shut out by a spirited West Eagles (a team made up predominantly of players from West New Britain) to the tune of 13.13 (91) to 3.2 (20) in a game that did not see any great heights.
The Eagles began the onslaught with PNG Mosquitos stalwart and bulky all-rounder Jeffrey ‘Hardy’ Namete, pictured, snapping the first goal against the wind within the span of two minutes to set the pace for the Eagles.
Namete added three goals for the match with new found young full forward Matthew Pulah Jr and backman-cum-forward flanker Raymond Vogae adding three goals each to banish the Demons.
Another PNG Mosquitoes and former Gerehu Magpies star Greg Ekari, Carlos Kila, Damien Gani and Jeremy Kase added one goal each to help the Eagles soar.
The Demons top players Paul Philip, Brendan Beno, Alphonse Major and Michael Macca tried their hardest but lacked coordination as they fell to their second heavy loss.
Koboni’s Beno, Jayjay Hauta and Phillip nabbed one each.
In the earlier match on Saturday, PNG Mosquitoes spearhead Amua Pirika led the Gereka Bombers to a 9.2 (56) to 5.6 (36) win over the North West Tigers.
The Tigers were formerly the University Tigers but changed their name to represent the part of the city they get their players from.
In yesterday’s early match the Gordon Kokofas turned the Colts Oval into a goal kicking bonanza with former Mosquitoes stalwart Sonny Yogomin leading the lizards to a mammoth 20.12 (132) to 0.0 (0) victory over the under-strength Magpies.
In the main match, reigning premiers Lamana Dockers used their overall game knowledge and experience to edge out the Bomana Cats 3.8 (26) to 1.7 (13).
