ISO Ealedona has been appointed general manager of the St Barbara Ltd’s Simberi operation in New Ireland.
His promotion from head of operations, which he held for the past seven months, fulfilled St Barbara’s long-standing commitment to succession planning.
Ealedona is a mining engineer with 26 years of experience in the industry.
He previously worked in Australia for the Rio Tinto Iron Ore and in PNG at Misima, Ok Tedi, Hidden Valley, Lihir and now Simberi mine.
“As a recognised employer of choice, we are proud to be the first public company (ASX listed) operating in Papua New Guinea to entrust this important role to a capable indigenous Papua New Guinean with the right skills and experience to lead our 1,200 strong workforce at Simberi,” said managing director and chief executive Craig Jetson.
“St Barbara is committed to creating a workplace where our talented people can reach their full potential in their chosen field and expertise.”
Ealedona was humbled by the appointment.
“It’s an honour to lead, on behalf of St Barbara, a mining operation in my home country,” he said.
“With the St Barbara executive, the Simberi leadership team and the workforce behind me, I am determined to lead Simberi safely and successfully through this transition period of oxide to sulphide mining for the benefit of all stakeholders.”

  • Congratulation Iso for the appointment. I was attached with the Mining Engineering Team as an industrial trainee with Newcrest Mining Ltd Lihir Operations back then in 2018. He was a Mine Manager there. I really admire him as a PNG’ean managing the large scale mine operation. It’s a great achievement and a motivation as a whole for PNG Mining Engineers.

  • He’s my humble #Taliu or Hidomo , I really admire his personality and I make sure to look after him well and safe when he comes to Airways Hotel for Holiday transit
