A YOUTH leader in the Tambul-Nebilyer district of Western Highlands is concerned about early election campaigning in his district.
Clyde Nelson, from Kanibe village, said last Friday intending candidates in his district went around giving substantial amounts of money and resources like pigs to people trying to pay bride price or compensation.
Nelson said he never saw such practices last year but this year intending candidates had come and made their intention to contest the general election known.
He urged the youths and people not to accept such gifts or go around and demand money and resources from any intending candidate.
He said such people already practised a form of corruption, and if elected would only do the same.
Nelson said for the good of the district, province and country people must screen candidates properly before deciding who to vote for.
He urge them to vote for the right people.
He said their MP Benjamin Poponawa had performed well by sealing the road into the district, established a bank, post office, built a proper market, road network, health centres and upgraded all schools.
Nelson said past leaders failed to deliver such vital basic services now they enjoyed.
He challenged the people to use their common sense and think ahead about their future and their children’s future before choosing their leaders.
He added that their votes are important and urged them not to waste it and be very selective.
