A WOMAN from Pagwi, East Sepik, died after she was stabbed by another woman who accused her of having an affair with her husband.
Maprik police station commander Inspector James Baugen said the incident occurred last Saturday.
“The woman knifed her on the leg and she lost a lot of blood. The woman gave herself up to police at the Maprik police station,” he said.
“We had asked (the relatives) to keep the body at the morgue to complete the investigation but they buried her last week.
“However, the court is issuing a warrant this week for the body to be exhumed and examined.”
Baugen said Pagwi police would lay charges after preliminary investigations were completed.
Meanwhile, the police commander raised concern on the worsening state of the Sepik Highway which had created an opportunity for youths to raise money from filling potholes.
He said the provincial works office should immediately fix the potholes and stop youths from filling the holes with sand and soil and collecting fees of between K5 and K10 from passing motorists.
“These youths are actually stealing. They are taking advantage of the lack of maintenance from the Works Department to make bucks from the motorists who travel on the highway,” Baugen said.
“Just imagine for one motorist to travel from Maprik to Wewak and pass through five or six stops, he spends close to K100 each day and for 50 vehicles to pay these youths in just one day. It is a lot of money.”
