THE Eastern Highlands assembly bade a fitting farewell for former premier, the late Sir Walter Nombe, in Goroka yesterday.
Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu described Sir Walter as a loyal servant who loved serving his people.
Numu said although he had not spent much time with Sir Walter, the time he had shared with the former premier had been well spent and of great value.
“I learned from Sir Walter wisdom and leadership to serve others,” he said.
Numu acknowledged the attendance of family members, senior public servants and the disciplined forces gathered for the farewell.
Numu passed on his sincere condolences on behalf of his family, the provincial government, its workers and the people of the eight districts to the Nombe family and relatives who not only lost Sir Walter but his wife Lady Serah as well.
Numu flew late Sir Walter on a helicopter around the province before handing over the body to family and relatives at Yabiufa village in Unggai.
Numu and members of the provincial assembly performed a traditional ritual to hand over the body.
Sir Walter and Lady Serah will be laid to rest at their Apoeto village in Unggai today.
