The Education Department partnered with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to conduct the first workshop on Improvement of Primary Pre-service Teacher Education Curriculum.
The workshop, held last Friday in Port Moresby, was attended by representatives from all 15 national primary teacher’s colleges, officials from the Education Department’s curriculum development division and teacher education division, teachers and JICA volunteers and representatives.
The workshop aimed to clarify issues that need improvement in the primary pre-service teacher education curriculum in line with the department’s curriculum reform.
It was also held to understand the current status of primary teaching and learning at the primary school level, and improve the primary pre-service teacher education curriculum in order to enhance the quality of education in the classroom.
As a way forward, JICA is currently supporting the Standards-Based Curriculum reform through the QUIS-ME textbook development project – a joint project between the Education Department and JICA developing SBC national textbooks for grades 3 to 6 mathematics and science.
