EHP struggling with education

Letters

EASTERN Highlands is one the biggest provinces in the country yet it lacks the credibility to balance that physical nature with its output in education.
As patriotic Eastern Highlanders and stakeholders of the public system, we are yet to get an update of the yearly or other progressive reports on the aspects of education.
The provincial education office lacks a systemic approach to give updates on certain areas of concern.
We hope the education office has systematic data in place to cater for such things.
As far as we are aware, most grade 12 students from the existing secondary schools did not have the chance to make it through to further studies.
Other provinces make the top 20 or top 10 for consistency in performance but EHP missed out big time.
There may be a number of reasons for that, but what we can possibly say from here is that the house is in a mess. The authorities need to seriously look into this.
We really want our children to make it further in terms of quality and standard.
We want EHP to be as competitive as other provinces.
And on the same note, we strongly recommend that we find a credible way of posting teachers to our higher institutions and the institutions in the province. Teachers should have the heart to serve without fear or favour despite the inconveniences they face.
It is about time that the provincial administration intervenes to check and balance the education sector in EHP.
